Statement Against Anti-Asian Racism and Violence

Dear SUSSW community,

SUSSW Asian Student Social Workers (ASSW) condemns all acts of racism and violence against Asian Americans. The recent shootings in Atlanta are an unspeakable tragedy. Our hearts go out to the victims and their families who were killed by the shootings.

Racism, discrimination, and oppression against the AAPI community are not new phenomena in the United States and have impacted Asian immigrants throughout history (i.e., the 1882 Chinese Exclusion Act, the Internment of Japanese Americans during WWII). Social issues affecting Asian Americans have not been received the level of awareness they deserve. We urge the SSW community to actively work to counter anti-Asian racism and violence. We must strive to end oppression, racism, and violence against the AAPI community.

Also, please read the SU Chief Diversity Officer’s Asian American Support Statement with Resources in our external resource section of the website.

Sincerely,
Asian Student Social Workers and Dr. Sook Kim Salisbury University School of Social Work
